Discover the hidden life of the Namib

At first glance, the dunes of the Namib Desert look empty — but spend a few hours with an experienced guide and a whole hidden world comes alive. The Living Desert Tour is a relaxed, fascinating experience just outside Swakopmund, where you’ll learn how animals have adapted to survive in one of the world’s oldest and harshest deserts.

Your guide will track and point out well-camouflaged creatures such as geckos, lizards, beetles, the famous sidewinder snake and the striking Namaqua chameleon. Sightings are never guaranteed (this is nature after all), but guides will always do their absolute best to find and show guests these incredible animals. Most people are surprised by how much life is hidden just beneath the sand once you know where — and how — to look.

The tour is easy-going and suitable for all ages, with short walks near the vehicle and plenty of time to ask questions and take photos. Wildlife is treated with great respect; animals are observed carefully, with limited handling done only by experienced guides when necessary, always with the wellbeing of the animals in mind.

Tours usually run with small, personal groups. Group size varies depending on the season, but outings normally consist of two 8-seater vehicles, keeping the experience comfortable and interactive.

Wir gehen mit Ihnen auf Spurensuche nach Chameleons, Schlangen, Eidechsen, Skorpionen, Geckos und vielen mehr. Sie bekommmen einen guten Einblick in die Ökologie dieser kargen, jedoch faszinierenden Umgebung. Auf einer Düne, mit bezauberndem Blick über den Atlantischen Ozean runden wir die einzigartige Tour ab. Diese Tour ist informativ und umweltfreundlich. Hier gibt es viel zu sehen, zu lernen, zu erleben und zu fotografieren. Kommt und erlebt die Tierwelt der “Kleinen” der Namib Wüste mit uns. Der Enthusiasmus unserer Guides und dessen Leidenschaft zur Natur wird Sie inspirieren. Die Führungen sind geplant und es steht nur eine begrenzte Anzahl von Plätzen zur Verfügung – bitte buchen Sie daher im Voraus.

Gäste werden um 8.00 Uhr, bei Ihrer jeweiligen Unterkunft in Swakopmund, abgeholt.
Die Dauer der Tour ist 4-5 Stunden.
